Born to be Wild

I think I was 8 when it happened, when I discovered music of my own choice beyond the cassette tapes my parents bought me. Up until that time, I listened to a lot of children's music and oldies. Not by choice, but simply because that's what my parents would put on for me. I remember owning several Oldie's cassette tapes, the compilations you would find at gas stations and convenience stores. In the car, my parents would always have the Oldie's station on, and I could sing the words to just about anything that came over the airwaves.

I had a nice collection of VHS tapes with various cartoons that my parents would record for me. One in particular that I remember was a Disney special on TV with music videos starring different characters. Most of the songs were by Weird Al. I remember a music video of "I Want a New Duck" featuring Donald Duck, and "Eat it" with Goofy. But, the one in particular that stood out as my favorite was the video for "Born to Be Wild", which was not a Weird Al cover but the original song.

I then realized that the same song played on the radio, on the station my parents would put on. And around that same time, I learned how to record onto cassette tapes. That's where it all began.

Like a true nature child
We were born
Born to be wild
We have climbed so high
Never want to die
